Be Prepared: Cell Phones for Emergencies

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Karen_Kirby]Karen Kirby You pull over to the side of the road. There’s smoke coming out of the hood–the car has overheated. You’re halfway between your house and your parents’ house for a visit. What’s the first thing you do after you pull over? I hope you have your cell phone on you. You’ve been there. An emergency. Something unexpected happens, and you are far from a land line. What do you? Thank goodness for cell phones. My older sister said she’d never have a cell phone. She’s not into high technology. But her daughter insisted. She bought my sister a cell phone and put her on her family’s cell phone plan. I breathed a sigh of relief. My sister and her husband have retired to the southwestern desert. If they go to visit family or go on vacation, they have to drive highways where there are miles between exits. We always worried. What if their car breaks down? What if they have a health emergency? What would they do in the heat if they had to walk to get help? There’s really no better insurance than having a cell phone. And it’s truly amazing the cell coverage that is available with many services any more. Even if you are out in “no man’s land” there is often at least some cell coverage. My sister never thought they’d actually have to use this cell phone in their travels. But on their way to my son’s graduation in California, their car over heated in the desert. They rested a while. The car seemed alright and so they ventured on. In a couple of miles, the car started smoking and came to a dead stop. They didn’t know it then, but the water hose had broken. Thank goodness they had their cell phone and could call the auto club. And then they called all of us to let us know they would be late. If they had not been able to call and didn’t arrive on time, I would have been wringing my hands and pulling my hair. But their cell phone call put all of us at ease. The auto club got out there right away and got them to the nearest repair station. The repair shop replaced the water hose and they were on their way again. They actually made to my son’s graduation on time! If you want a cell phone only for emergency purposes, plan on just using it occasionally, or if you don’t have a lot of money to spend on a cell phone, consider a prepaid cell phone. I just can’t say enough about having a cell phone when you go on road trips. It’s an absolute necessity. I can’t imagine anyone going on a road trip without a cell phone! So, What Do You Do For Work?

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Doreen Banaszak I remember being asked this question a lot when I was dissatisfied with my career. My usual strategy would be to give a pat answer and immediately turn the question back on the person who asked it. My avoidance of the question wasnt so much that I was considered unsuccessful or that my work was embarrassing, it was more about the fact that I didnt feel personally successful doing what I was doing. I longed to be excited not evasive when asked this question. I wanted to be able to speak for more than 2 seconds before I turned the question back on my inquisitor. What do you do when asked this question and how do you feel? If you find yourself avoiding and not feeling all that great about your answer, its time to change your answer and heres a simple way to get started Ask yourself this: What do I REALLY want to say when someone says, So what do you do for work? Whats the first thing that comes to mind? What about it is appealing to you? What other things come to mind? How do feel thinking about it? If you feel good, then you are on the right track! Now if you are like most, youll immediately start thinking of all the reasons why this will never happen. What if you put all those reasons aside and just thought more about it? Try it What would be one thing you could do to explore how this idea might work? I bet you do a lot of projects at your current job, what would be your next steps if you were to make turning this idea into reality a project? This may seem simple, but it is the first step to shift your attention from discomfort to possibility. Give it a try, you really have nothing to lose and could possibly get on your way to happily answering, So, what do you do for work? Peppermint - Nature’s Salve for Upper Respiratory Infections

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Mary Welty Peppermint (Mentha Piperita) Peppermint is a hybrid perennial plant which is found mostly cultivated but also found wild in moist soil in the eastern U.S. and in Europe. The whole plant has the characteristic smell of menthol. Peppermint definitely falls into my category of favorite herbs. While it is well known as an excellent stomach tonic for poor digestion, heartburn, nausea and insomnia. I have always found it an outstanding treatment for sinus inflammation and to relieve the constant coughing associated with bronchitis. Anyone paying attention to the news of late has heard the latest credo from the medical community; cough suppressants simply do not work and they should not be given to children. What then is a parent to do? Nothing is more disturbing than lying awake at night listening to the constant, painful coughing of a spouse or child. If over-the-counter cough suppressants are ineffective, what will work? My suggestion would be to try a very strong cup of peppermint tea. No, I am not a doctor, and before administering any type of treatment, you should first discuss it with a medical professional. That said, I have a history of bronchitis, generally brought on by a sinus infection. The constant sinus drainage collects in my chest and I begin to cough until it sounds like I am trying to hack up a lung. The chest tightens to the point where it is difficult to breath, and the constant coughing eliminates any hope of sleeping. When you suffer through that enough times, youre willing to try just about anything. Prepare a cup of very strong peppermint tea. If you are using tea bags, use at least 2 bags to a standard teacup. Allow the bags to steep until the tea is very dark. To take away a bit of the bitterness you can add a tablespoon of honey, which helps to sooth the throat. Dont just gulp the tea down. The greatest relief from this herbal remedy is obtained by inhaling the steam from of the tea. Hold the cup beneath your nose and inhale deeply. The fumes will instantly begin to reduce the swelling of the sinus passages, allowing you to breath easier. The combination of fumes and drinking the hot tea will also begin to loosen up the mucus in your chest, and coughing will become more productive. If your children happen to be anything like mine, they might be a bit resistant to drinking this tea, even with the honey. But rest assured, they will get almost as much benefit from simply breathing in the fumes as they will from drinking the tea. Set them up at the kitchen table with the tea under their nose. Drape a towel over their head and let them breath in the fumes until the tea cools. Peppermints’ natural calming properties make this a wonderful tea to drink just before bed. It will help you to relax and finally get a decent nights rest. Reference: The Herb Book, by John Lust,Benedict Lust Pub.1974 M.K. Natural Skin Care Products - Will Your Skin Benefit?

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Annie Weatherburn I did my research and feel that natural skin care products, organic skin care products or aromatherapy products - whatever you would like to call them, do provide great benefits to your skin. I found out some startling facts about what was contained in the skin care products I had currently been using and converted to a natural skin care regime. Why did I change my ways? Well, just over two years ago I turned 50. The shock was not how old I was but how my skin had suddenly began to lose its elasticity and the ageing process had taken hold. This couldnt be happening as Id always had such a young appearance with lots of friends saying I always only looked around 35. Were they still saying this? Id noticed that compliment hadnt come my way in some time so I decided to adjust my lifestyle and renew not only my vigour but perhaps what went into my body and onto my skin. Firstly, I opted for a healthy balanced diet and lost a little of that excess weight Id seem to build up from too much wining and dining with friends. I began to exercise that really got the blood rushing to my facial tissues! Next I took a good look at the products I was using on my skin. Previously I had used many off-the-shelf products, ranging from moderately priced to expensive well-known brands. I had never tried natural skin care products before. I began to research all about natural skin care and found some alarming discoveries of the harmful chemical substances that were in many of the skin care creams and potions I had been using. Do a search on chemicals used in skin care and you will find out some shocking facts that should convert you to natural products forever! My own research was a life-changing career path as I discovered the many fantastic benefits of natural skin care and of the potent and fantastic vibrancy to be found in organic skin care products due to the concentrated effect that the organic ingredients contained. It prompted me to create my own range of natural skin care products which I have called Essentially Me Australia. Today, Im writing articles about natural skin care who would have thought? The one thing however that confused me back then the most was how to decipher the skin care ingredients on packaging or claimed to be in products? Some of those names are very complex but what do they mean. Well, chemical ingredient lists are extensive so Ill leave this to you to do a browse and find out about all those harmful chemicals in skin care as I mentioned earlier, but for the natural ingredients that are beneficial heres an overview: A natural compound, found naturally in the skin of fish (especially wild salmon) is called DMAE or Dimethylaminoethanol. It is especially well known for providing excellent collagen support to outermost layers of skin. DMAE or Dimethylaminoethanol helps to tighten the skin providing a firmer skin reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Next we have a natural acid, Alpha Lipoic Acid, which is a very potent antioxidant that eliminates free radicals. Free radicals are one of the primary factors in the aging of skin and breakdown of skin elasticity. You can actually take Alpha Lipoic Acid internally as a skin supplement or apply externally. This wonderful natural acid dramatically improves the skin’s appearance very quickly and visible results are evident within weeks. How many times have you heard that Vitamin C is good for you? Well it is great for the skin this is for sure. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and is proven to increase the production and synthesis of collagen. In skin care it also protects the skin from sun damage, and even helps reverse the damaging effects that the sun has on the skin. This does not mean that a sunscreen can be abandoned but rather products that contain Vitamin C will actually be more likely to be able to neutralise free radicals. Vitamin C can be included in any skin care type product. Lastly in my article Id like to mention ,b>Retinol (a natural form of Vitamin A). Retinol is excellent in skin care products that are aimed to regenerate and rejuvenate skin. It is especially effective on sensitive skin since it does not cause redness or peeling. Essential oils so many that are fantastic for the skin. Natural oils used as a base in skin care should be cold pressed. The most beneficial plant oils (like rosehip, borage and evening primrose oils) are polyunsaturated, which means they oxidise and go rancid fairly quickly (about 6 months) so some natural products actually use synthetic preservatives and a natural preservative for example could be wheatgerm oil. Some common natural safe ingredients you may see listed are: Aloe vera, purified water, cold-pressed oils such as jojoba, safflower, sweet almond, olive oil and so on, herbal extracts, non-gmo lecithin, calendula, essential oils of various types, cocoa butter, shea butter, beeswax, clays, d-panthenol and of course the other ingredients mentioned earlier to name a few. Finally we suggest you avoid skin care products that contain the following: mineral oils, petrolatum, propylene glycol, parabens, phthalates, SLS and SLES. I invite you to and I encourage you to take a look at just what you are putting into your body and onto your skin. Also feel free to visit my own site for Natural Skin Care Products | Organic Skin Care Products. Dowsing Dowser Divining Radiesthesia - Using of Pendulum and Biotensor

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

By Roger Moretto Dowsing - Divining is a word, that was coined in 1920 by the French abbot Bouly and it comes from the Latin word Radius (ray) and from the Greek word Aisthesis (sensation). The diviner is the person, who is able to sense, through a pendulum, biotensor or dowsing rod, the vibrations of impulses and the radiations emitted from things, people, animals, grounds, and so onIn ancient times the word Dowsing was used just for the search of springs of water or metals as gold. Then the man realised that the radiations were emitted, not only by water and metals, but also by each form of life. Then people realised that, this resonance between the inorganic material and the mind of man, could have been extensible to any field. Here the reason for choosing the word Divining as definition to indicate the study of the waves and vibrations, that are emitted from each element. THE DIVINING/DOWSING SO IS THE STUDY FOR THE SEARCH OF WAVES AND VIBRATIONS, THAT ARE EMITTED FROM EACH ELEMENT. As above-said, the main divining working tools, that the diviner can use for any search, are pendulums made of crystal, wood or metal, biotensor, and dowsing rods. They are used as help to detect the vibrations and radiations emitted from each element and person. We will see that the Divining has got a multiplicity of uses. The divining phenomena have in fact an explanation of a physical order: each thing, from the living people to the inorganic material, emits radiations, each one on different wavelengths. Then the diviner, through his divining faculties (They will be developed by divining graphics and also by some particular tactics as we are going to see in this distribution), is able to sense these wavelengths or natural radiations to find the presence of what he is looking for: illnesses inside a person, the medicine, therapy or the more suitable therapeutic approach for the care of an illness and for the holistic care, water, gold, disappeared things, any diagnosis on fields, cars, besides to devise active radionics forms for every vibrational use.So it is possible to do test and diagnosis on:physic problems for any subject, Any mechanical motor For any installation, To find missing things, person animals, Alimentary intolerance for people, animals, To test any therapies for any types of curative approach for person, plants, animals, Any geopatia inside an houses and ground, The search of water wells, petroleum, minerals, depth of the ground, Archaeological and Historical searches, How to arrange and to orient things and furniture inside houses, offices, for making the room healthy in a vibrational way, and so on, To test the healthy colours for whitewashing walls of houses, offices, and so on, To test which plants are more suitable for gardens, houses, offices, rooms in general, To test the better choice for any arguments, the talents and the professional address, of office, of house more suitable, the sport practice, spiritual discipline, To test and project the better geometric forms for building a healthy house… at the end everything which regards your concrete choices for the “present” in general, remembering always of the moral rules which have been expanded in this distribution without developing with the time a form of dependence, if you previously have obtained small results. The Radiesthesia could help you for a more harmonic life. Discovering Romantic Honeymoon Destinations

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Diane Winter The best way to begin a marriage is with a great honeymoon. That way you are starting on a positive note and the love that will be shared during the honeymoon will be solid rock on which to build the marriage. To have a wonderful honeymoon experience you need to choose from one of the most romantic honeymoon destinations. Typically couples like to go with romantic honeymoon destinations that allow you to spend time on a beach. For example, getting away to the Hawaiian Islands will let you spend all your time close to the water. You can take a boat or helicopter from island to island to enjoy all the beautiful scenery or soak up the sun the whole time on one carefree island. What so many people appreciate about the Hawaiian Islands is that they are rarely crowded. This intimate atmosphere helps you feel away from it all. Another thing that is truly wonderful about these islands is that you always have clear blue water that you can see your feet in. The beauty alone is enough to make the Hawaiian Islands one of the most romantic honeymoon destinations around. Another great option for romantic honeymoon destinations is Bora Bora. It is a little more high-priced than other locations, but it is much more secluded. This type of calm and relaxing environment will make it easy for you to focus solely on your relationship with your new spouse. Aside from beach honeymoons, many people who get married during the winter prefer heading to Colorado as their romantic honeymoon destination. What makes Colorado so appealing is that it provides a lot of adventure. Known for their great winter sports, Colorado makes it easy for you to partake in skiing, ice skating, hockey, hiking, and other fun outdoor activities. If you are looking for more variety in the activities and relaxation opportunities on your honeymoon, look no further than a Las Vegas honeymoon. Known for its glamour and night life, for some couples Las Vegas is the perfect romantic honeymoon destination. The beautiful hotel rooms make it easy to relax, while there are tons of shows and activities for people who want to get moving. For a great cultural experience many people love traveling to Europe. This is one of the most popular romantic honeymoon destinations for those who love to experience new things and embrace different cultures. England, Spain, and Italy are the European countries that get visited the most by honeymooners. There are so many exotic places to get in some sightseeing and if you spend enough time there you can really get a feel for what it is like as one of the natives. Other great romantic honeymoon destinations include Mexico, Florida, Costa Rica, New York City, and the Virgin Islands. Since every couple has a different idea of what is romantic, you will really want to consider all your options. There is a perfect romantic honeymoon destination awaiting your visit. That is why there are companies that offer various types of loans for different types of people ? civilian or military. For the military, there are also companies that extend financial support through bad credit loans. Bad credit loans give the military the chance to borrow some money when they are in dire need or want to make ends meet. Companies who offer this type of loan have various programs and proposals for the different needs and situations of people in the military. Various amounts are also offered. Some offer as much as $500 while others go as high as $1000. Some companies offer both service and speed. They can process bad credit loans in a short period of time. They are able to attract interested military people because they can process the loan efficiently in a span of minutes. However, these companies must be able to gather and verify certain pieces of information. Once the information has been verified and everything is in order, the loan will then be released. For some companies, a person is able to qualify for a bad credit loan as long as he is able to meet very specific requirements. These include being a military personnel on active duty, a full-time active or reserve personnel, or having a 20-year career as retired military personnel or having a rank of Department of Defense GS-6 or above. Four Essential Principles of Emerging Market Success

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Daniel Harris Emerging markets are high risk and high reward. In my work as an attorney representing Western companies in emerging markets, I have concluded there are four essential elements to emerging market success: a good partner, an open mind, active participation, and extreme patience. I have seen enough essential similarities between such diverse countries as Russia, Korea (ten years ago when it was still an emerging market country), Vietnam, and even the Gambia and Papua New Guinea, to believe certain core generalizations hold true for all or nearly all emerging market nations. Just as a good concept, a strong market, and good execution are necessary in all countries, so too are these four simple principles the keys to success in emerging market nations. PRINCIPLE ONE: A Good Partner is the sine qua non of Success. The quality of the local partner is the indispensable element for emerging market success. So where do you begin? Start with due diligence. Before doing business with anyone, you must first determine what you need from your partner in the particular country in which you will be conducting business. In my experience, foreign companies need a local partner who is effective, cooperative, and (most important of all) trustworthy. Emerging market countries almost always have less-than-fully-formed legal systems. Their laws are oftentimes slanted towards the government and away from free markets. Their courts are slow and often corrupt. Form takes precedence over substance in ways completely unfamiliar to Westerners. One small technical miscue on your part might eliminate your right to sue your partner for having stolen all of your money. It might even lead to you and your company being kicked out of the country, while your assets remain. Of course you should do your best to avoid technical miscues, but the better strategy is to pick your partner well. So what should you look for in a local partner? Political connections? Yes and no: Yes, because you probably will need someone with sufficient dexterity to maneuver around often-suffocating business laws and a bureaucracy that may try to cut in on your business at every turn. No, if you think that is all you will need. Just as in the West, the politically connected are usually more a “government type” than a business person. Partnering with someone in an emerging country with whom you would never consider partnering back home is a mistake. Political clout in emerging market countries is often more effective for avoiding legal responsibility for something like a debt than it is in generating business revenues. I have seen countless instances where a foreign company partners with someone because he “is tight with the governor,” only to see the business crushed by the new governor as part of his house cleaning. The best partner is politically connected only to the extent necessary for business success. Your partner’s character and reputation are your protection in countries where the court system is not. Do not partner in any sense of that term without having conducted thorough due diligence. Get to know your potential partner. If he is legitimate and wants to work with you for the long term, he will expect you to want to get to know him better and think nothing of your wanting multiple meetings before signing any deal. Use every source you have to find out about your potential partner. Check his references, particularly those of other foreign firms with whom he has worked. Hire a local lawyer or investigator to confirm he and his various businesses are in good standing with all creditors and taxing authorities. If your potential partner is in Vladivostok, Russia or Qingdao, China, hiring a lawyer in Moscow or Shanghai will probably not be good enough. Find someone you can trust with contacts where your potential partner conducts business. PRINCIPLE TWO: Keep an Open Mind. Assume Nothing. Doing business in an emerging market means taking nothing for granted. I have a mantra for my own legal work in these countries that translates well to the business world: “Assume nothing, but assume that you are assuming things without even realizing you are doing so.” Things will be different. Very different. Things you take for granted in your home country might not exist in the emerging market country. Things you take for granted in your home country might be the exact opposite in the emerging market country. Things you think will be totally different in the emerging market country may be exactly the same. Things you thought you knew about emerging market countries based on what you know from another emerging market country may be completely different in a neighboring country, or even in another region within the same country. The principle, one more time: Keep an open mind, and assume nothing. PRINCIPLE THREE: Participate in Everything. In many emerging market countries, local businesses take advantage of corruption to avoid complying with laws. This may work for the locals, but it won’t work for you. The easiest way for a local rival to drive you out is for you to do something illegal. Neither you nor your government will have good grounds to complain if your rival gets your business closed down due to your illegal activity. It might even be your own partner who reports you so he can assume full ownership and control of your business. You must have your own people on the ground, leading, training, and instructing on business methods, business ethics, efficiency, and quality control, among other things. We have a saying in our law office that one day of face-to-face meetings with local counsel is equivalent to one month of telephone calls and e-mails in terms of getting things done. This is equally true on the business front. PRINCIPLE FOUR: Exercise Extreme Patience. This principle stems from the maxim that everything takes twice as long as you think it will. If it takes twice as long in the West, triple that in emerging market countries. You’ll go in both as a businessperson and a teacherand in both roles, the learning curve of your partner will almost certainly take way more time to deal with than you think. For example, many emerging market countries have a history where “bad business” meant “thinking long-term.” A year or two after the fall of Soviet communism, I was involved in a matter where an investor put $250,000 into a Russian joint venture.
